What will our government's response be to the thousands of refugees leaving the Ukraine? Some will want to come to the UK to be with family or friends living here. Will we say "no", go away, or will we embrace them in the spirit of our common humanity? Will we close our borders and send them away? Will our government deploy the Navy to push their boats back out to sea?
"Yesterday the Ukrainian flag flew over the Home Office. At the same time Priti Patel announced that all visa applications for Ukranians without UK families were suspended and that refugee applications for those traveling through third "safe" countries would not be considered.
No safe and legal route for Ukrainians fleeing war to travel to UK for asylum exists.
Our government should not be judged on it's flag waving, it should be judged on both it's actions against those fleeing conflict and it's inaction in securing safe routes for refugees."
