NN Journal understands the football club’s owners have put forward an offer to the new unitary authority but is a deal any closer?

It’s seven years since work to redevelop Northampton Town Football Club’s (NTFC) East Stand was first halted. The now well-documented scandal of the missing £10.25m loan from the borough council and a subsequent police investigation followed. 

With work to the stand still incomplete NN Journal today looks at what the current situation is.

Background

Owners Kelvin Thomas and David Bower took over the club in 2015 and pledged to complete the East Stand. 

Since then, the club has been keen to develop land next to the Sixfields stadium. In order to do so, it must reach an agreement with the local authority (now West Northants Council) which owns the freehold.
