Some IT systems at the University of Northampton are still offline following the recent cyber attack.
Our exclusive story last week revealed the attack which got through the university’s IT security and led to massive disruption to staff and students.
Lessons had to be cancelled, learning resources were unreachable and students had to be given deadline extensions as the majority of the IT systems had to be shut down.
It was only after NN Journal went public with the problems that the university’s vice chancellor Nick Petford told staff and students what had happened. Police have been investigating the attack along with the national cyber security centre, which gave an alert to education establishments at the start of the academic year that hackers were targeting schools, colleges and universities.
