this country has been in housing crisis for many years, but there is no action plan to relieve the crisis, i just want to bang heads together because without credible actions the crisis will only keep getting worse and worse and we revert back to slum living.
There are national minimum space standards for homes in the UK. However at the request of some (political party funders perhaps) those standards are not mandatory. They are discretionary to each local authority. Many councils (mostly Conservative?) refuse to adopt them as it would require many house builders and developers to loose profit. Same with HMOs since many are converted from family homes for increased profit for landlords when the UK has a shortage of family homes.
We have a chance to make a stand against this kind of thing. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/a-decent-homes-standard-in-the-private-rented-sector-consultation
