The Tory farce in local government continues. Now stretching over generations. In any other organisation they would have been sacked years ago. And who has suffered - the people who depend on public services that have been decimated.

For many years, even before the Tories came to power, children services have been in hole in the public purse.

I'll freely admit to not knowing exactly how it's funded but it has been the children in care that sucks up a disproportionate amount of the money.

Presumably, the local authorities get reimbursed by central government for their efforts and compensated for losses but in light of how the government has taken more than ever before from our local government, I feel it is time to redress the balance so as to not wreck the few public services we have left

What all this tells us is the absurdity of creating two county councils carrying on the same policies of the failed single council run by the same bloody people. I well remember how proud Jim Harker was when he boasted about keeping the rates low and the level of services even lower. If anything has ever demanded a public inquiry then it is this colossal mis-management
