Four years in prison for peaceful protest is an outrage!
The United Nations sent Michel Forst, their Special Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders, to witness Daniel’s trial because a complaint had been lodged with the UN about Daniel Shaw's draconian treatment by the authorities in this country. M. Forst wrote to the last government in March this year to raise his concerns, but it failed to respond to the Special Rapporteur's communication in a substantive way. Michel Forst attended Daniel’s trial to see how it was conducted. It was a farce.
The Special Rapporteur issued a press release on 24/6/24: "I remind the United Kingdom that, should I fail to see effective, immediate steps by the government of the United Kingdom to halt its alleged persecution, penalization or harassment of Mr. Shaw, the powers granted to me under my mandate empower me to refer the alleged violation of article 3 (8) to the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee, as a reflection of its seriousness and/or systemic nature."
Professor McGuire, Emeritus Professor of Geophysical & Climate Hazards at University College London, said: “The trial and verdict were a farce. They mark a low point in British justice and they were an assault on free speech." while Sir David King, who was previously the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor called it "disgraceful".
As the climate and ecological crises accelerate we can expect increasing levels of chaos and repression.
The hypocracy of the Tories over the Police Commissioner appointing her mate as deputy is astounding. But nonetheless it is still nepotism and cannot be supported.
A £55K publicly funded post should be advertised and subject to at least a minimum level of competition to ensure a range of candidates are considered and the appointment made on ability, not because you are someone's mate.
Whilst I disagree with the views and methods of the Just Stop Oil group, sending them to prison at a time when the prisons are nearly full and inmates are having to be released early is clearly non-sensical.
Oh and I think they just managed to start their biggest fight to date with treating parents of disabled kids like that. We are warriors the likes of which they’ve never seen before. They just hit their own destruct button. I believe this issue is now the one which will see the end of them in their posts. I hope they rot in their own callous, cesspit, deluded filth.
Of all the things I have seen and heard in Northants, one of the Tory’s accusing anybody of cronyism might just have topped the bill for most deluded narcissistic act to date. That will take some beating
I was appalled at the conduct of the chair at last night's WNC full council meeting. It took enormous courage (and I don't doubt a lot of planning regarding leaving their children) for the SEND mothers to speak.
Cllr Jo Gilford came across like a total despot, no empathy and no patience.
Fast forward to 25.44 and listen to the chair, Cllr Jo Gilford, let out an exasperated sigh. Unprofessional in the extreme. I think they forget who pays their salary.
I recalled during the Mike Reader campaign that he said: "Stone work ethics was inspiring". This was also echo by others Labour activists whose silence now is deafening. I wonder why?..you 🤔
Not the first time she has used a situation to put a mate in post where there was no interview or selection panel but if it is a case of "I can't do it myself" then maybe giving up her role as a councillor might help her find the time to dedicate to these issues as PCC? Just a thought..
Regarding the SEND scandal meeting with parents, I have sent today , 21st July an email to all the seven newly elected Northamptonshire MPS asking to investigate the corrupt actions of both unitary Council. Change can be made when you want to. You only need to see what Andrea Leadsom intervene over the alleged serial abuser and the implementation of the DBS checks for all Councillors.
I m interested in knowing how the new Northants Mp s voted on the amendments to the Kings Speech re 2 child benefit cap, gaza, climate and ecology bil.voting at 16,age cap on peers

Silenced, removed and banned indefinitely for speaking up about public services, what a sad day for democracy in Northamptonshire.
