More excellent community journalism. Whatever the legal position, surely in these days of heightened ecological awareness someone can see this is a total PR disaster for the diocese? Not exactly a Christian act.
I hope all involved are thoroughly ashamed of themselves ... how much did this vandalism cost? how much deceit was involved hiding from the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and what about the diocese charities and clergy pensions that need all this sort of funding. Does the Church of England have a climate emergency policy that gives effective oversight - including endorsing wiping out 21 acres of trees whilst so many are trying to plant as many trees as possible. I hope the Bishop of Peterborough is fined.
