Thanks for this. I was glad to see that two greens got elected on Thursday. Is that enough to get some scrutiny going? Michael Edwards (Londoner but born in N'ton & my dad a Labour councillor in N County Borough)

Think the idea of the Northamptonshire Conservatives policing their own is utterly wishful thinking.

My impression is that the Tories run a disciplined machine that gives short shrift to any wayward councillor who has a conscience or does not sleep at night worrying about the way the council is operating.

This is the long term achievement of the greed culture started by the Thatcherites so its ok for things to go wrong as long as it does not affect me.

Holding the Tories to account will also come from outside the council Chambers through community campaigning, as happenned in 2016/17 with Save Northants Services and the campaigns to save libraries. Such community organising must continue and become more militant in the face of undoubtably further Tory pain for working people.

We tried our best at Northampton TUSC. We are inviting all left leaning groups to attend our public meeting on the 15th May at 7pm where we’ll be talking about what comes next :)
