‘We are in dire straits at the moment’
The mood music about the state of North Northamptonshire Council is not improving as last night’s finance scrutiny meeting heard more complaints from councillors

More than six months in and some major concerns about how the new unitary council serving North Northamptonshire is operating are still being raised.
High staff vacancy rates, the lack of transformation and problems within its finance departments were all aired by councillors sitting on the authority's finance scrutiny committee meeting held at the Swanspool offices in Wellingborough.
At its third meeting many of the complaints made at the previous meeting in September were aired again including dissatisfaction from the members of the ruling conservative group.
Cllr David Jenney, who represents Rushden South and who used to be deputy leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said:
“We are six months down the line and I don't think we have done very much.
“The leader and the chief executive are doing their best to talk up staff morale but I don't think it is doing any good. We are in dire straits at the moment and we need to get it sorted.”
