Update: Northampton councillor calls for action following 'left behind’ neighbourhoods report

A councillor for Talavera will be raising the issue at a council meeting this week

West Northamptonshire Council must invest in the area of Talavera in Northampton after it was highlighted in a parliamentary report on 'left behind neighbourhoods', a councillor has said.

Last week NN Journal reported that Queensway in Wellingborough, Kingswood in Corby, Avondale Grange in Kettering, Talavera and Kings Heath in Northampton had been identified as ‘left behind’.

Councillor for Talavera Dennis Meredith, will now be asking West Northamptonshire Council what it plans to do to improve the area, when he attends the next full council meeting on Thursday evening. 

A report by a cross-party group of MPs said these neighbourhoods have far lower levels of community spaces, leisure and green assets than other deprived areas. 70 per cent of the 225 areas identified as ‘left behind’ had less dedicated community space than the England average.

Talavera was noted as having the lowest rates of sports and leisure activities in the whole country.
