This is exactly the kind of issue which leads residents to believe there has been no change from the old, obstinate, difficult to work with .. CC days. So the local tax payer is being asked to pay the local tax payer for a building given to the local tax payer for community use and which will support community wellbeing, pride and the public realm. Surely the only question at that meeting should be - how do we make this happen as quickly and seemlessly as possible.

What this sorry little saga exposes (once again) is the fatuity of having town councillors who are also unitary councillors. Anyone who fondly imagines that having unitary councillors on the town council gives a direct line for the interests of the town to be brought to the attention of the unitary is gravely mistaken - the unitary councillors merely act as an axis for control of the town council by the unitary. I hope people remember this next May.

This stinks of a 'The Sheriff Of Nottingham' fiscal policy and to see Matt Binley quoting NNC policy is like saying "We've made up some rules so it must be ok to obey them".

It was gifted to the people of Wellingborough.

Which bit does NNC not understand?

He claims £25K would be "best value". This is I believe only required on commercial sales, not community transfers of assets which can and often are for free. Cllr. Bingley really needs to get on top of his brief!

He might reply that a moratorium on transfer of assets because of the new government.

Just stalling tactics

Exactly the same scenario as Fletton Field in Oundle. NNC "selling" an asset that was originally gifted to the community

Beautiful building, good that some local Councillors have the needs of local people and saving historical buildings at the heart of their work.

Ross Andrew I concur with your comments. Why would you even contemplate to engage in conversation with a Councillor with a criminal background? Evidently the "Nolan principle" is meaningless to them. Moreover,

the so called "lesson's learned" from the various scandals of Mold, Adderley, Nunn, etc...does not impact at all on the Governance of West and North unitary Council. Corruption continues to rules and no body have the gut to speak out. The fear of being "punish" by their political party speak volumes. In my opinion this is not democracy it is Fascism.

My understanding (from a friend who was involved in local governtment and property issues) is that the likes of Parish and Town councils have the right to seek transfer and run facilities such as public parks, cemeteries and crems, allotments, halls etc. I believe the Govt policy was that such transfers should be granted . He doesn't recall there being a right to enforce a transfer. It would be against the spirit of the situation to insist on substantive payment. May be WTC should seek legal advice.

In BCW almost all the facilities in parishes had in fact been transferred free to Parish councils. So why is NNC going against the spirit of this with WTC?

Good grief, Matt Binley, the convicted criminal and ex jailbird with a record of dishonest behaviour. Was there really no candidate better than him? Perhaps someone with just a teensy bit of integrity?
