The first Green Party councillors have been elected in Northants - so what happens now?

As the results came in at the North Northamptonshire Council election count last Friday, there was buzz around the Green Party candidates. Quite unexpectedly, the party took all three seats in the Cloverhill ward of Kettering, claiming the Conservative stronghold lock, stock and barrel and gaining 56 per cent of all votes cast. They topped off their historic win - they are the first Green councillors in Northants - by claiming five seats on the newly created Kettering town council, beating Labour to become second party behind the ruling Conservatives.

Their impressive win echoes a strong performance by the national party which at the ‘Super Thursday’ elections increased its councillor numbers significantly.

So what happens now?

We spoke to North Northamptonshire’s newly elected Dez Dell who will be championing green issues with his fellow councillors Emily Fedorowycz and Sarah Tubbs.
