Staff burnout has been pointed to as a reason why employees at North Northamptonshire Council have on average two weeks sick leave per year.
An audit has also found the authority has not been recording absence statistics on time, so the real figure may be even higher.
Almost a third of staff cited stress and mental health as the reason for their absence with anxiety and depression also common causes. Musculoskeletal problems are another common reason for absence.
