Rumoured coup falls flat as North unitary’s first meeting goes without a hitch
The venue cost £14,000 but it was not an exciting night
The Conservative councillors who will lead the New Northamptonshire Council into the next four years have been revealed.
The inaugural meeting of the North Northamptonshire Council took place at Kettering Conference Centre last night, with the authority’s newly elected 78 councillors (minus three absentees) gathering at the covid-compliant event. The new unitary council has replaced all of the boroughs, districts and county councils in the north of the county and will now provide all public services.
In the days before the meeting rumours had been swirling that ousted deputy leader Cllr Martin Griffiths was going to try and stage some sort of a coup, but on the night all went without a hitch and Cllr Griffiths failed to even show up.
