Police launch murder investigation after woman dies in Northampton flat
The woman, who is thought to be in her thirties, has not been named
A murder investigation has been launched after a woman died in a Northampton flat.
Ambulance crews were called out to Rhymer House in Chalcombe Avenue in Northampton at around 8.20pm on Saturday after they received a call from someone reporting a medical emergency.
The ambulance service reported it as a sudden death to Northamptonshire Police, who say they attended the scene at 8.40pm and on the same evening arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He was still in police custody late yesterday afternoon.
Police say the woman is believed to be in her thirties and has not been officially identified yet. They say there were no children at the property.
House-to-house enquiries took place on Sunday in the area and the coroner ordered a forensic postmortem. Police say an exact cause of death will not be released until a toxicology report has been returned.
Yesterday afternoon two police officers were in the block of flats keeping a scene guard.
A neighbour told NN Journal there had been a heavy police presence on Saturday night.
Senior investigating officer, detective inspector Simon Barnes, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly lost her life, and our thoughts are firmly with her family and friends at this time.
“We know incidents of this nature can be a cause of concern within the wider community, however while I would like to reassure members of the public that we are confident this is an isolated incident, we have a team of dedicated officers working at pace to establish what has happened.
“There will continue to be a police presence in the area over the next few days, and we would encourage anyone who has any information that they believe is relevant to this investigation to please get in touch.”
Anyone who has information can call 101 or alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 24000099392.
This is the second murder investigation launched in the county after the death of a woman.
Ewa Kolsta was found dead in a flat above the shopping precinct in Occupation Road, Corby on January 12. The polish national was in her 50s and a 63-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Last week Northants Police said there were no updates on the results of the toxicology reports and when asked when she was last seen before her death said ‘this forms part of the ongoing investigation so is not something we are in a position to share at the moment.’
Just dreadful. We pray that she rests in peace and that the perpetrator has been or soon will be brought to bear for his crime.
God bless and keep her family and friends at this difficult time. RIP.
