I think in the coming weeks and months, a spotlight will be shone on the inner workings of PVP and the people that run it. I imagine they are kicking themselves for sending 8 officers to try to arrest Maria Botterill-Barnes at EXACTLY the same time that this DVPO was in place as the whole "limited resources" excuse will not wash with the public.
Choices were made to intimidate one victim of domestic abuse, a choice which I think was a huge catalyst for another victim paying in the most horrific way possible.
Stupidity and ineptitude is one thing, but when a department is wilfully run against the interest and safety of victims it becomes pointless and the spend of the person running it becomes utterly untenable.
This woman could have been your sister, cousin, friend, neighbour and was failed by an organisation already mired in scandal doing nothing to try to resolve issues. We deserve much much better!
Unfortunately this kind of events has happened before in Northamptonshire. Does anyone recalled when a family in Wootton were murdered. The Police made several visits to the property, but never looked in the window of the property. A neighbour did that, and reported all the dead bodies to the police. In pursuit of the criminal, they went to China twice. Even though they had been told by the Moroccan Police who had arrested a man who had confessed to the crime. I am afraid the Commissioner Stone will do the usual thing and issue a statement saying how wonderful the Police are and that, she has a Plan very similar to Baldrick. Could he be a close relation? Excellent NNJournal report.
I've already emailed Stone and given her a fair warning that people in her team are neither bright nor ethical enough to see how lying and covering up for failings are a good long term strategy and she may well have a blind spot by delegating these issues down to them. I am ever the optimist and want to give her every chance to handle things fairly in the interest of the tax paying public that she represents. Thus far I am not inspired with confidence but am giving her sufficient time to be able to demonstrate something more than empty PR statements to prove she is up to the job.
Simon I have had the unfortunate experience of helping her winning the election for Commissioner. My conclusion about her was she was not above exaggerating, really exaggerating her abilities.
She can big herself up all she likes, all I am concerned about is if she can deliver on her promises. If she cannot then any exaggerations will only serve to come back and bite her in the rear
No more deaths due to mismanagement!!!! An horrific story and police failing to protect.
The police do not have time does not make sence. What were the police doing during this time?
I helped get the story out about a Council Leader, ex husband, who had abused me and other women. This councillor said ' I was making his life difficult' and made a claim against me for harassment. The police have since apologised however on 2 occasions; 8 police, on 15/9/24 and 2 police, on 6/10/24, came to arrest me, search my property, sieze my goods.
How much wasted police time would have been used up on this had I been in the country to have trauled through all my things.
They suggested they arrest, search and seize on a 1-2/10 suspicion. So why not Harshita Brella's husband and why not my perpetrator.
It's quite common for an officer to record a domestic incident as very high risk, only for domestic abuse team to do their own assessment and downgrade it. This means DAT don't have to deal and it gets bounced back to response/community teams to deal.
Those at the coalface have been complaining about this abuse of the system for years and have been comprehensively ignored by senior management. Now the HMIC have picked up on it perhaps those responsible for allowing this shirking of responsibility to continue unchallenged might be taken to task over it. Sadly it's a tradition within NORPOL for people to get promoted rather than dealt with.
So far, not so good is all that can said about the performance of Commissioner Stone. As Simon Tilley comments statements are empty rhetoric and that is all we are seeing. Actions not words are called for.

Another major issue in Danielle Stones in tray. How to refocus the police on these issues.
