Northamptonshire prepares to welcome Afghan refugees
An announcement from West Northamptonshire Council is imminent

Talks are going on behind the scenes at both the North and West Northamptonshire councils to finalise how they can assist with the government’s Afghan relocation scheme.
Towns and cities across the UK have pledged to support those fleeing Afghanistan with some refugees already arriving in nearby Milton Keynes.
The Home Office identifies which areas are most able to provide help and then contacts the local authority to make an agreement.
An announcement from West Northamptonshire Council is imminent however council leader Jonathan Nunn told NN Journal last night they are awaiting confirmation from the government on numbers before being able to provide the details.
“We read it that local people want us to support this and we’re working to be ready to welcome what I think will be quite a lot compared to many other councils,” he said.
