A Labour candidate standing for Sixfields in Northampton has been kicked out of the party, causing upset ahead of the local elections next month.
Graham Croucher, a well known local campaigner in the St James area of Northampton and Labour member since 2013, was selected to stand for the West Northamptonshire Council by party members. However he also decided to stand as an independent candidate in the St James ward for the town council.
This meant he would be standing against a Labour candidate (Rufia Ashraf) which the party says means he can not remain a member. A decision he says he has appealed against.
