Council set to press forward with Northampton city status bid

A consultation on Northampton’s bid for city status has been ‘widely supportive’ a council report says. 

Last month, West Northamptonshire Council carried out a series of workshops with community groups and discussions with charities, businesses and sports clubs on plans to submit a bid as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

The authority says a successful bid would benefit not only Northampton but other towns and villages across West Northants by attracting new investment and businesses to the area.

“West Northants has the potential to become a larger contributor to the country’s economy and city status would support this,” council papers say.

The documents also detail how city status would impact community pride and raise the profile of West Northants.
