More bank closures risks people being ‘cut adrift’
Who will be hit hardest by the loss of more bank branches in the county?

In recent months, NN Journal has received a flurry of emails from readers worried about access to cash. The correspondence comes off the back of several campaigns to highlight the impact on local communities of banks and cash machines being lost.
With news yesterday that HSBC is to close 69 branches around the UK, two of those in Northamptonshire (Wellingborough on August 23 and Daventry on September 13), it seems they were right to be concerned.
According to the Post Office eight million adults in the UK would struggle without cash, yet since 2015 4,000 bank branches have been lost from our high streets - a rate of 55 per month.
Last month Barclays shut branches in Daventry and Towcester with another in Weston Favell set to close next week and Rushden is set to lose NatWest and TSB in the coming weeks.
