Corby’s regeneration stalled in the austerity years

North Northamptonshire Council has paid a London-based consultancy just under £50,000 to come up with a vision for how the area could look in 2050.

Inner Circle Consulting helped the council’s outgoing chief executive Rob Bridge and Conservative leader Jason Smithers come up with the 21-page prospectus which will be used as a starting point for mapping out a vision for the North of the county. A conference in the coming weeks will further develop the ideas.

But despite a grand statement:

North Northamptonshire is in a unique moment to set out its ambitions. In 2050 we want to be able to look back to this point and be proud that we took bold and ambitious decisions to make this the best place it can be, with the best life possible for the people of North Northamptonshire.

The consultancy’s main offering in the prospectus appears to be an off-the-peg alliterative priority list which could have been applied to any part of the country. Outlining the priorities of the new vision it says Northamptonshire will be a Proud Place, A Prosperous Place and a Proactive Place. A page is dedicated to each of the priorities, but there is little detail, strategy or tactics.
