Labour councillor accepts hospitality from football club amid deal negotiations
'He shouldn’t have compromised himself'

A Labour councillor enjoyed free hospitality at a Northampton Town Football Club match while negotiations were ongoing between the council and the club over the Sixfields land deal.
Councillor for Kingsthorpe South Harry Barrett has refused to answer questions by NN Journal about the circumstances surrounding his Sixfields visit, however his register of interests states he received a free ticket and refreshments, his register of interests states he received a free ticket and refreshments suggesting he may have attended the club’s hospitality suite.
The match took place just weeks after Barrett was appointed as a liaison representative between Labour and the Cobblers Supporters Trust and at a time when tensions were heightened between the club and the Trust due to the latter’s objections to the deal.
