A Kettering woman whose husband died after contracting Covid-19 while in a Kettering care home says she hopes that practical lessons will have been learned 18 months on from his death.

Roy Hunt, 83, was one of 15 elderly people who died after the virus tore through the Temple Court care home, propelling it into national headlines.

Roy’s wife Kay, has always been critical of the way the home, which was run by Amicura Ltd, handled the outbreak and in the wake of yesterday’s report published jointly by two government select committees, she says she hopes things will have changed.

“You can’t blame the government”, she said. “Nobody knew what was happening and they had to learn very quickly.

“But why didn’t they make sure the hospitals had tested patients before they were put into care homes? Why didn’t the care home segregate them?

“I’m hoping lessons will be learned. Not just by saying that they have, but by actual change”.
