Get NN Journal at a discount this bank holiday
Take advantage of a reduced subscription and support local journalism
By Sarah Ward
It’s been more than four years now since NN Journal first began, started in a bid to increase the media offer in Northants and to serve up public interest news on a regular basis.
So we set up without adverts, no patrons or grants, giving away everything we wrote for free in the first three months and then moving to a subscriber model thereafter.
The model serves us well and means that our readers do not have to trawl through the ads and pop ups that blight many other news websites. It also means we can be truly independent, never having to be concerned about whether to publish as it may upset an advertiser or funder.
NN Journal is still a small outfit and we currently do not have any plans to change that. The majority of our articles are written by myself and the regular weekend arts features are written by Julia Thorley (congratulations to Julia on her election to Kettering Town Council as a Green councillor).
We also use lots of articles by local democracy reporter Nadia Lincoln (Nadia is attached to news provider Reach and her salary is covered by the BBC) and at the recent general election our coverage was broadened thanks to experienced journalist Craig Lewis.
If you’re reading this it’s because you’re not a paying subscriber to NN Journal and we’d like to entice you to become one by offering a discount.
If you’ve been sitting on the fence for a while, perhaps consider joining us and assisting in our news service. Northants is a recognised ‘news desert’ without a daily newspaper and the local media is depleting year on year. To survive we will need more of our readers to contribute. News is not a free resource and like every service needs to be paid for.
So if you can afford it please sign up here. For just £4.50 a month you will receive everything we publish (three or four articles each week) and also have access to out full archive.
There’s lots for us to do here at NN Journal; not least document the emergence of two new Reform UK led unitary councils in Northants.
There are also lots of progressive politics happening in Northants (the Green Party now run Kettering Council, more on this tomorrow) and there are many areas we wish to write about and investigate. So please help us to do it.
Enjoy the rest of the bank holiday
