Friday brief: Legal action against new unitary authority

The 78 councillors on North Northamptonshire Council gathered at an extraordinary meeting at Corby Cube Theatre on Tuesday night. While the rest of the country was watching the historic football win by England’s Lions against Germany in the Euro 2020 tournament, the newly elected unitary councillors were asked to agree a recommendation about how to proceed with a legal action against the new authority.

The matter is a legacy issue and concerns a long-running civil claim against East Northamptonshire Council. As the successor council the claim is now against the new unitary.

The exempt report prepared by the council’s monitoring officer Adele Wylie indicates there is a reporting restriction on the case imposed by the court and NN Journal is currently seeking legal guidance on what we can bring into the public domain.

As soon as we are legally able to we will bring you the details of the matter which could work out to be very costly for North Northamptonshire Council tax payers.
