Profiteering in this sector is immense. Vulnerable children have become a commodity. Pleased that more services are being brought back ‘in house’.

If there is consistent "overspend" on a budget year on year it's not the overspend that the problem, it's the Tory politicians who set the budget and the private sector who are profiting from caring for our children.

Weren't children once looked after in council run homes? Didn't they have to close because they were too expensive?

Not as expensive as paying staff and shareholder dividends

Our newly elected MPs should really get involved with the endless saga of the child placements.

The use of the private sector does not seem to work and the funding is inadequate.

Wonder how the officers justify £70 odd quid an hour day and night for one child ? What do the parents ,if any, contribute ?

Oh for the days when councils ran children’s homes and homes for the elderly- before the privatisation. I know there were problems of inappropriate staff behaviour in some but paying £millions to profit first providers hasn’t solved that problem and hasn’t helped service users nor council tax payers
