This is such an odd decision. The statutes are one of the few things put into place by the local authority that have worked, creating a single area where the history of the town can be celebrated. Why split that up?
If they do feel the need to have statues dotted throughout the town, perhaps as part of a heritage trail, why not create new ones with the Guildhall statues as a focal/starting point?
By the way, anyone know what’s happened to the giant shoes that were removed from the town centre and have next returned? Perhaps they could be used around the town instead - maybe take advantage of the resources and successes already in place!
This is outrageous. They form a thematic whole putting important aspects and significant historical people of Northamptonshire's history at the centre of the county town. That where they should remain.
Clearly the current West Northamptonshire Council is using it's remaining time to get all sorts of unpopular things through which they hope cannot be reversed.
This is entirely predictable following the rush to Unitary Government ordered at breakneck speed by the previous Conservative Government. There was no proper consultation. We had to have two massive councils, neither of which has the future of Northampton as its prime concern. What would have made more sense was three councils, one for the North (Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough) one for the rural areas (including Brackley, Thrapston and Oundle) and one for Greater Northampton, (enlarged to include Moulton etc.) The Greater Northampton Council would hopefully achieve city status and reflect the proud history of a place in which the King of England once held court in his Royal Castle. The Councillors of the enlarged Northampton would be unlikely to make daft decisions to distribute the statues in the Guildhall to various locations across the town. At present, it is possible to spend a few quiet minutes in the Guildhall with some of the town's great achievers and contemplate what Northampton once was and what it might become.
Leave the statues where they are if they are moved they could get damaged at least they are safe because the gates are locked at night and other times when the Guildhall is closed. Northampton is a stinking dirty grotty dump the council should concentrate on cleaning up the town first before talking about moving statues.i was born and raised in Northampton and iam ashamed of the state of it.
The statues sit within the curtilage of the listed Guildall. Surely they shouldn't be removed without listed building consent and that should be applied for and obtained before the Council starts touting them about?
Danielle Stone claiming she had to appoint a deputy as she didn't have the capacity to do the PCC job on her own, yet still has time to stick her beak into irrelevant matters such as this.
If Northampton is ever to have a future then this forthcoming meeting on Friday will be the most important in the town's history. I am not exaggerating, the artificial construct that is WNC does not exist to serve the interests of the town. We have a rich history and the Guildhall is a vital part of that ,it has played an important part in many peoples lives, where landmark events of towns peoples have taken place. Our Guildhall is more than a listed building it is a physical symbol of our town's independent streak (my old friend, the late Roger Winter used to call it akkardness. This is after all the town that sent Bradlaugh to Westminster. It is clear that the numpties who make up the bulk of WNC have no interest in the heritage or indeed the future of this town .The very idea of disposing of our beautiful Guildhall extension (designed by local architects Stimpson & Walton after a public consultation) just shows how out of touch they are. If they need more offices, student student flats or another hotel-well they have County Hall(!) There are dozens of community and voluntary groups who serve our town and could make good use of our Guildhall .Please turn up on Friday and voice your concern.
This is just crazy. Why can’t they be kept together ? It makes for a better piece … market square or around all saints if they have to move would be far better. Split up they lose weight and more difficult for the public to see. Truely ridiculous idea

I'm not on social media sites so I couldn't read Pamela's comment but it's nice to know someone else agrees with me Thankyou

I fail to understand why we trust the council when all they appear to do is destroy Northampton Town
