Residents facing an extra charge to dispose of their green waste have been given a glimmer of hope by the North unitary’s finance scrutiny committee which thinks the council should instead carry on funding the service.

Thousands of households across Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough are facing a £40 additional cost on top of their current council tax bill as Cllr Jason Smithers’ Conservative executive is proposing to charge for emptying green bins.
