A row is brewing between Northampton North MP Michael Ellis and his local Conservative social club. 

As reported by Private Eye, the chairman of the St George’s Conservative Club wrote in his autumn newsletter that Ellis, who was promoted to attorney general this month, has not paid rent for an office he uses within the club’s building - something the MP says is not true.

In the newsletter, which has also been published on the club’s Facebook page, chairman John Burrows suggested that Ellis, who was recently appointed attorney general, had not responded to demands for payment.

“We have written to Michael Ellis regarding the rent which he has not paid, nor the decency to reply back. He mentions on his leaflets about the money he saves but so far we have not received any payment for the office and storage of all his leaflets etc.”

Burrows went on to complain about the MP’s use of electricity at the building.
