Corby’s first ever Pride happening today
Fifty years after the first Pride was held in London, Corby will host its own celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
Fifty years after the first Pride was held in London, Corby will host its own celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
For new mayor Leanne Buckingham, who is gay and has enjoyed Pride events in the country’s big cities over the years, it will be an important event for young people in the town who may be considering who they are.
She said: “I think we can see an increase in young people questioning their sexuality and gender. I think for young people to be able to go to their own town and realise it is ok just adds to the comfort around being yourself.
“It would be nice if the whole family came along to see how normal being part of a community is.”
The parade starts at midday from the Corby Cube in James Ashworth VC Square and will be led by Wincanton’s Proud Mary truck. It will then move along George Street, Westcott Way, Elizabeth Street and Cottingham Road before ending at Coronation Park at about 12:30pm.
