Climate summits in the West as concerns grow in the North over lack of action

As Glasgow prepares for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) at the end of the month, a series of ‘mini summits’ will be held here in Northamptonshire. 

The events will see West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) engaging with various groups and organisations to discuss issues such as business, agriculture and the rural environment, transport, housing and communities.

The council’s Corporate Plan sets out six priorities to ‘make West Northants a place to thrive’. One of those is focused on the environment and wellbeing with the authority saying it will become the ‘most environmentally friendly council that residents have ever had’.

In addition to the climate summits WNC says that over the next five years it will only contract with partners that are socially responsible, increase charging points, improve recycling processes, maintain parks and green spaces to a high standard and plant more trees.
