Bringing the farmers' market vibe to Corby’s historic heart
This Saturday we bring you news of a new farmers' style market starting up in Corby.
Next Saturday the first Old Village Market will take place.
The idea has come from Dani Metcalfe, who runs the 4 hairdressers in the old village and whose family have run a business there for decades.
Having lived and worked in London for many years and been a regular user of her local farmers market, when she came back to raise her family in Corby, she missed having a similar destination on her own doorstep,
And so she decided to start up something herself. She has teamed up with friend Tracey Donativo and together the pair will be running the Old Village Market on the last Saturday of every month.
Dani said:
“We are hoping it’s popular and everyone enjoys the market.
“And we are hoping to grow and grow. If this proves popular for Corby then we want to run it more often, perhaps going to every other week”.
Sandwiched between two large supermarkets, the established D&L Hadden family butchers is the only specialist food store in Corby’s old village, and Dani is hoping the market will help bring a bit of a weekend buzz back to Corby’s oldest centre.
She said:
“Part of our feedback was - in the village there are a lot of elderly people and when they buy their carrots they are buying it in a big plastic bag. If you’re living on your own you just need a couple. It would be good to offer them something where they can come and just get a few bits.”
Stalls on offer will be selling a variety of local produce from cheese, to roast coffee, cakes and bread.
Dani wants the new market to attract people from far and wide as well as be used by locals, who she hopes will make it a regular part of their weekend routine.
She said:
“I would like to encourage people to walk and cycle down. It’s dog friendly - we want people who are out for the day, can have a nice walk down and get their shopping.”
The market will take place on the last Saturday of every month from 9am to 1pm.
